Eser, Bosch’un alegorik kalabalıklarını, Dalí’nin rüya mantığını ve Magritte’in kavramsal paradokslarını aynı yüzeyde birleştirir.

Etymology: The term “holy fool” derives from the English words holy and fool. Here, “fool” does not signify mindlessness, but rather a state of being closest to divine truth. The concept originates from the Greek σαλός (salos), used in Byzantine and Orthodox traditions to mean “mad for God,” and finds its counterpart in Eastern mysticism as the “meczup.”

Carrying the Surrealist principle of “pure psychic automatism free from the control of reason,” this scene is also a map of madness. Every symbol is connected in the mind of the holy fool; each detail, seemingly random, is in fact part of a meticulously constructed inner order. The stern judge and the money stand as emblems of worldly power, while robotic humans and animals mirror the soulless repetitions of modern life. The eyes speak of constant surveillance and awareness; the balloon of lightness and escape; the guitar of rhythms that breach the walls of logic. The pocketknife and soldier bear the archetypes of power and conflict, while the alien embodies the allure of the unknown. The girl on horseback becomes the symbol of freedom in motion, and nature emerges as the silent reminder of an unchanging, ancient order amid the chaos.

The work merges the allegorical crowds of Bosch, the dream logic of Dalí, and the conceptual paradoxes of Magritte on a single surface. Yet here, these elements are not merely aesthetic; they are fragments of a philosophy of existence. The holy fool weaves them into a harmony that appears chaotic, inviting the viewer to wander through the labyrinth of both their own subconscious and the collective memory.
