"“KHORA”

“ KHORA”

In Plato’s ontology, there are two distinct realms: the eternal and unchanging World of Ideas, and the World of Becoming, its reflection bound to time and space, always in flux. Yet Plato places a third realm between them: Khora. Khora is both a receptacle that holds and nourishes all becoming, and a boundary that separates it from being. It gathers opposites together without letting them dissolve into one another. Every transition—from disorder to order, from forgetting to remembering, from the invisible to the visible—takes place through this threshold. For anything to exist, it must first have a place; Khora is that necessary space.

This artwork makes Khora’s dual nature visible through symbols. The fish embodies the unconscious and intuition, while also recalling Ibn Arabi’s teaching of raw desire refined into serenity. The child represents the essence giving birth to itself, the purest expression of Khora’s womb-like quality. Spiral stones reflect the cycles of time, while natural elements express life’s passage from unseen to seen. The deer embodies purity and spiritual awakening; the Star of David points to the union of heaven and earth, spirit and body, echoing Khora’s structure of holding opposites. The woman with the serpent speaks of transformation, wisdom, and the paradox of fear and healing, while the centaur figure reveals the human struggle and coexistence of instinct and intellect.

Together, these images portray Khora not only as a philosophical concept but also as an inner space within the human being. The story of the disappearing fish and the emergence of Elijah and Khidr becomes a metaphor for the passage between consciousness and the unconscious. Plato’s metaphors of gold, vessel, and mother converge here in a visual experience of the primordial womb.

This meaning also resonates in Eastern mysticism. In the Mevlevi tradition, “to hora” means not only to eat but also to be spiritually nourished. Thus the matbah-ı şerif, the sacred kitchen, is seen as the place where one matures, transforms, and is made whole. The Khora painting carries the same invitation: to cook, to transform, and to confront one’s inner realm.

Technically, the piece is produced on 100% premium cotton canvas, using UV-fixed digital printing for vibrancy, durability, and longevity. It is available in various size options, offering both aesthetic presence and contemplative depth.

Dimensions: 140 × 140 cm, 125 × 125 cm, 98 × 98 cm

Khora is more than an artwork; it is a metaphysical space where the conscious and the unconscious, the earthly and the divine, the visible and the invisible all coexist, inviting the viewer to recognize and inhabit their own inner space.
