Her gün aynı masaya oturabilir, aynı yoldan yürüyebilir, aynı hareketleri tekrar edebiliriz.

Ve belki de bir hayatı kutsal kılan şey, ona dışarıdan eklediğimiz olağanüstü anlar değil;

sıradan olanla nasıl ilişki kurduğumuzdur.

From Routines to Rituals: Making Your Own Life Sacred

Sacrifice looks not only at what we give up in life, but at what we choose to make sacred.

At the center of the work stands a many-armed figure holding a heart drawn from its own chest. Here, the heart is not a symbol of loss, but of a conscious offering. A person does not offer a part of themselves in order to destroy it, but in order to move into another state, to transform, and to reconnect with something greater than the self.

Around the central figure, images belonging to different times and worlds come together. Classical busts evoke the past, fire suggests transformation, the chess scene recalls life’s choices and impermanence, while the ladder rising toward the sky reflects the human desire to reach beyond what is visible. As planets, eyes, human figures, and animal forms merge within the same composition, the boundaries between microcosm and macrocosm, the individual and the universe, begin to dissolve.

The title itself carries the trace of this transformation. At the root of the word sacrifice lies the idea of “making sacred,” while the linguistic roots of the concept of offering also carry the meaning of “drawing near.” Sacrifice therefore moves beyond the idea of loss or renunciation. It becomes the willingness to leave behind an old version of oneself in order to move closer to something else.

Because sometimes, it is not life itself that needs to change, but the relationship we have with it.

We may sit at the same table every day, walk the same path, and repeat the same gestures. Yet when the intention within an action changes, the ordinary begins to change with it. A routine, when repeated with awareness, becomes a ritual; everyday life becomes a space that carries meaning.

Sacrifice is not about giving up the self.

It is about giving up the belief that the self exists separately from the whole.

For this reason, the altar in the work does not exist only at its center. Life itself becomes an altar, and every conscious act becomes an offering.

And perhaps what makes a life sacred is not the extraordinary moments we add to it from the outside, but

the way we relate to the ordinary.
