Etimolojik olarak Samt, astronomide gök cisimlerinin izlediği “yörünge ve yönü” ifade eder; tasavvufi literatürde ise pasif bir suskunluk olan sükûttan ayrılarak “konuşmaya kudreti varken irade ile susmayı” imler. Bu eserde Samt, ontolojik bir başkaldırı olarak tezahür eder. Geleneksel minyatürün hiyerarşik (nakış) perspektifi, Dadaist bir kolaj estetiğiyle parçalanırken; kompozisyon modern çağın görsel kakofonisi ve “dilin afetleri” karşısında ruhun kendi içsel rotasını bulma sancısını görünür kılar.
Eserin solunda yer alan açık diş kesiti — konuşmanın ve nutuk yetisinin fiziksel aracı — öğüten bir mekanizma olmaktan çıkar; içine yerleştirilen cenin formuyla, nefse muhalefet ederek seçilen doğurgan sessizliğin rahmine dönüşür. Bu iradi susuş, ham sözü yutar ve hakikati doğurur. Sağ taraftaki çatlamış yumurta, egonun (kabuğun) kırılarak varlığın kendi yörüngesine, yani samtına yerleşmesini simgeler. Yüzeye dağılmış ve sürekli izleyen gözler ise sözün hükmünü yitirdiği, ilahi heybet karşısında “hayret” makamının başladığı mutlak şahitlik (müşahede) anını somutlaştırır.
Bu bağlamda eser, susmayı geri çekilme değil; varlığın kendi merkezine dönüşü olarak konumlandırır. Samt, dilin kurucu ve yıkıcı kudreti karşısında bilincin kendi sınırını fark etmesi ve o sınırda kalabilme cesaretidir. Parçalanmış imgeler çağın dağılmış öznesini temsil ederken; görünmeyen fakat hissedilen bir çekim alanı tüm unsurları yeniden hizaya çağırır. Bu çekim alanı Samt’ın kendisidir: Sözü yutan değil, sözü aşan bir merkez.
Samt burada bir yokluk değil, yoğunluk hâlidir. Konuşma kudretine sahipken susmak; kendini savunmaktan vazgeçmek değil, varlığı müdahaleden arındırmaktır. Eser anlamı çoğaltmaz, derinleştirir; açıklamaz, bekletir; hüküm vermez, şahit olmaya davet eder.
Ve son olarak izleyiciye şu soruyu bırakır:
Hakikatin etrafında mı dönüyorsun, yoksa kendi yörüngene gerçekten yerleşebildin mi?
SAMT
Etymologically, the term Samt refers in astronomy to the “orbit and direction” followed by celestial bodies; in Sufi literature, it diverges from passive helpless silence (sükût) and signifies “the deliberate choice to remain silent despite possessing the power to speak.” In this work, Samt manifests as an ontological rebellion. By fragmenting the hierarchical (ornamental) perspective of traditional miniature painting through a Dadaist collage aesthetic, the composition visualizes the soul’s struggle to rediscover its inner trajectory amid the visual cacophony of the modern age and the “disasters of language.”
On the left side of the piece, the open cross-section of teeth— the physical instrument of speech and oratory— ceases to function as a grinding mechanism. Instead, with the fetal form placed within it, it transforms into the womb of a fertile silence chosen in opposition to the ego (nafs): a voluntary quietude that swallows raw speech and gives birth to truth. On the right, the cracked egg depicts the breaking of the egoic shell, allowing being to settle into its own orbit—its samt. The scattered, ever-watchful eyes across the surface embody the moment when speech loses its authority and the station of awe (hayret) begins before divine majesty: an absolute witnessing (mushahada) that compels the viewer to confront their own truth.
In this context, the work positions silence not as withdrawal, but as a return to one’s center. Samt becomes the courage to recognize the ontological limits of language and to remain at that threshold. The fragmented imagery reflects the dispersed modern subject, while an unseen yet palpable gravitational field draws every element back into alignment. That field is Samt itself: not an absence of speech, but the silent core beyond it.
Here, Samt is not emptiness but density. To remain silent while capable of speaking is not to abandon self-expression, but to purify being from unnecessary intervention. Rather than multiplying meaning, the work deepens it; rather than explaining, it suspends; rather than declaring, it invites witnessing.
Ultimately, Samt turns the viewer’s attention from the noise of the external world toward their own inner orbit and whispers a final question: Are you circling around truth, or have you truly settled into your own?
